Who is Kuda FX?

Behind the conversations about foreign exchange, exchange rates and cross-border transfers, there is a team of people who have spent years working in this industry and building something we are incredibly proud of.

So we thought it would be a good idea to take a step back and share a little more about who we are, where we come from, and what we do.

Because while foreign exchange can sometimes seem technical, at its core it is still about trust, relationships, and helping clients move money across borders with confidence.

Our Story 

Kuda FX forms part of the broader Kuda group.

Kuda Insurance began in Cape Town in 2009, and Kuda FX started in Pretoria in 2013.

Since then, Kuda FX has grown into a specialised foreign exchange business focused on helping individuals and companies with their international transfer and currency requirements.

Over the years, the business has expanded its footprint into both Gauteng and the Western Cape, allowing us to support clients across South Africa and further afield.

What Does Kuda FX Do? 

Kuda FX is an independent foreign exchange intermediary.

We assist private clients and businesses with cross-border transactions, whether that means sending money offshore, receiving funds into South Africa, or navigating the exchange control and compliance processes that often come with those transactions.

For individuals, this can include the use of annual allowances for offshore transfers and support with the practical steps required to move funds internationally. We typically assist individuals who would like to invest funds abroad, who are emigrating, or who work abroad and want to convert their foreign earnings into rands.

We also have a streamlined setup for advisors and fund managers who would like to transfer funds to a nominated offshore investment product on behalf of their clients.

For businesses, our role goes beyond simply executing foreign exchange transactions. We also provide strategic support around managing currency exposure and planning for future international payments.

This includes assisting commercial clients with foreign exchange risk management, including hedging strategies where appropriate. For businesses exposed to currency movements, this can play an important role in protecting margins, improving certainty, and bringing greater structure to future cash flow planning.

How We Work 

Foreign exchange is rarely just about booking a deal.

There are usually several steps involved, and our role is to help manage the process from start to finish as smoothly as possible.

Depending on the client’s needs, that may include:

• Assisting with account opening through authorised dealer banks
• Helping clients with tax clearance or exchange control-related processes where required
• Undertaking FICA and compliance checks
• Issuing trade confirmations
• Providing proof of payment once funds have been transferred
• Completing the relevant Balance of Payments (BOP) reporting to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB)

Foreign exchange transactions often involve several moving parts. Our role is to make sure everything is handled correctly so that our clients can focus on their own priorities.
